History in the making for Rollalong
We have recently been appointed to the Southern Modular Building Framework. This prestigious framework marks a long history of our company working with Hampshire County Council. Our relationship began in 1958 when we were asked to design a workmen’s shelter as an alternative to the old, traditional “elephant” shelter, which was simply a tubular frame with a canvas cover. Rollalong designed a unit that was light enough to be manhandled on and off a lorry, but was sufficiently sturdy to stand the test of time. Constructed of corrugated aluminium, these buildings lasted for many years, and in 1977 we presented Hampshire with its 50,000th shelter, proving Rollalong’s innovative design was a real winner!

As well as these popular shelters, we have also built mobile medical units, dental clinics, tool trailers, toilet units and other versatile buildings for the Authority, showing that there was a Rollalong solution for any problem.

Although our Rollalong buildings have advanced significantly over the years; the fundamental principles of offsite construction remain the same – whereby they offer a number of advantages against traditional construction.

Nowadays Hampshire County Council procures temporary and permanent building requirements via the SMBF Framework, and this procurement route is also open to any public procurement body across the South. The Southern Modular Building Framework will offer an alternative to traditional build accommodation, providing a range of modular building solutions designed to cover temporary, semi-permanent and permanent accommodation requirements, and this new appointment means that we will be able to build everything from standard classrooms through to large, multi-million pound permanent buildings. Steve Chivers, Rollalong Managing Director, comments, “We are delighted to have been appointed to the Framework. The companies appointed to service this new adventure meet the strict council requirements of offering high quality, while providing competitive pricing. We are hugely proud of our rich history with HCC, and look forward to working with them on many more projects in the future.” We have a proven track record of offering excellent quality and cost effective buildings, and we look forward to our continued association with a valued client.

In stark contrast to our original buildings, we now harness all the benefits of offsite construction to build buildings like these…
