Background
Rollalong is working with housing association Magna Housing to increase the availability of affordable, high-quality homes in the South West.
Woodland Way in the village of Chickerell near Weymouth is one of the first small housing schemes to be completed for Magna Housing as a result of this partnership approach. The development comprises two Bramble type semi-detached three-bedroom homes for five people for shared ownership.
Partnership
Rollalong has teamed up with Magna Housing, Wiltshire Council and the South West Procurement Alliance (SWPA) to address the housing crisis in the South West. Through the SWPA’s Offsite Construction of New Homes framework the objective is to build nearly 1,000 new modular homes between 2022 and 2025.
The partners are committed to accelerating the delivery of modular homes in the UK, using offsite manufactured, precision-engineered techniques to deliver much needed homes in the local area, as well as modernising and speeding up the overall process.
Design
This small development comprises two three-bedroom semi-detached homes, each made up of eight modules manufactured in Rollalong’s factory in Dorset and installed on site in around 11 weeks.
Each house features a kitchen/diner with built-in oven, hob and extractor hood, a living room, a bathroom with shower, bath and shower screen, a private rear garden with a shed, tandem parking, floor covering throughout and an NHBC Accepts building warranty for a modular home.
The homes are from the Magna portfolio designed for manufacture by Rollalong to ensure a product led mind set, championing high quality, energy efficiency, design flexibility and consumer choice.
Location
Chickerell is a small village which benefits from a range of amenities including a supermarket, a coffee shop and a post office. The seaside town of Weymouth, with its beautiful sandy beach, coastline and harbour along with a range of shops and restaurants, is four miles away.
Social value
The development of these new homes, designed with the end user in mind, supports the local economy by employing local people and using local suppliers. The construction process also reduces any environmental impact as it uses less energy, reduces waste and creates less disruption to local residents, thanks to fewer deliveries to site over a shorter period of time.
