On Thursday (6th February) our team welcomed managers from the Orbital South Colleges to our Sugden Way site in Barking hoping to inspire the next generation of construction apprentices.
At the end of January we installed the modules which will make up 13 new homes in Barking in just six working days.
Business development managers from the college group visited Sugden Way to preview the new modular instillation and gain an in-depth understanding of how modern methods of construction (MMC) are manufactured, delivered and installed.
East Surrey College and John Ruskin College, both within the OSC group, are a major provider of construction apprenticeships in the South East.
Both colleges are looking to introduce two new apprenticeship standards within their current construction courses, to include modular construction, by offering a course in Construction Assembly and Installation.
Daniel Newcombe, our Safety, Health Environment and Quality Manager, said: “Hearing of both colleges’ new plans to introduce these additional courses as apprenticeships is really exciting for the industry.
“It’s incredibly important to support the colleges within the surrounding areas that are looking to introduce MMC within their courses by helping them develop these standards.
“Last week was also National Apprenticeship Week and we’re delighted that Rollalong has been able to play a part by helping these colleges consider offering apprenticeships in Construction Assembly and Installation.”
Once completed, Sugden way will house two developments of spacious, energy-efficient homes in a four-storey apartment block that will hold 13 individual apartments.
These modular developments will assist in combatting the shortage of housing within the borough by approximately halving the time of traditional construction methods.
Rollalong will manufacture a total of 64 modules for the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham designed to create low-energy, high-quality modular homes in environmentally friendly controlled conditions from our Dorset-based manufacturing and head office site.
24th September 2019 Rollalong has unveiled a range of new homes for affordable housing provider Magna Housing during an open day on Thursday 29th August. As well as a tour of The Bramble, a three-bed house, guests at the open day had a tour of the manufacturing facility to gain a more detailed understanding of how modular houses are constructed. Paul Read, Head of Development and Sales at Magna, said: “We have a five–year development strategy to deliver a programme of affordable homes. We are delighted to be working with Rollalong to expand our capacity by building affordable homes.” The collaboration between the two south west–based organisations aims to tackle the current challenges of housing affordability and quality, by bringing together five decades of manufacturing knowhow and extensive knowledge of what people want from their homes. Rollalong’s Managing Director Steve Chivers said: “The open day gave us a chance to showcase what we’re planning to deliver for Magna to the wider housing community. “We are proud to have been awarded the contract to design and build these modular homes that will provide a range of high-quality, affordable housing for everyone. I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive comments about the build, particularly with regards to the finish we have achieved. “This has also been a great opportunity to demystify modular housing for some and champion the benefits that this style of housing can provide in the face of a nationwide housing crisis.” By manufacturing the homes within a factory setting, Rollalong can control or guarantee the following aspects:- Consistent quality

Rollalong Ltd are building a 3-bedroom offsite show home in our factory, which will eventually be furnished and displayed at our headquarters in Dorset.
The offsite built prototype house is ahead of our exciting residential project with Magna Housing to deliver 600 homes for their next generation of offsite homes, beginning with the first instalment of 25 homes in Spring-Summer of this year.

Rollalong Offsite Construction, who were appointed by West Sussex County Council to carry out a full turnkey solution to supply seven additional classrooms, new staff room, WC’s and storage areas along with an extension and redesign of staff car park. Rollalong are set for the first stage completion at Northgate Primary School in Crawley.
Despite two interruptions of snow earlier in the year and numerous storms causing site delays, the Rolla still achieved the planned Phase 1 handover, along with delivery of twenty bays of modules as programmed, completing the tarmac carpark and one classroom which links to the existing school building.
The next phase of the offsite built extension project is the completion of six KS2 classrooms. The team are working on both external and internal finishes including cladding with faced brickwork and Cedral panels to blend in with the surrounding area.
The internal finishing of the factory fitted modules continues alongside to achieve the project completion in June.
