Completion of Northgate School Classroom Extension

West Sussex County Council appointed Rollalong Permanent Offsite Construction to provide Northgate Primary School with an offsite solution to expand and enhance the school’s current educational facilities.

The Crawley based school is located just over 100 miles away from our manufacturing facilities in Wimborne, and had requests to match the new Rollalong build to their current buildings and facilities. For the school’s appearance to be similar throughout, the Rollalong team worked on both internal and external finishes including cladding with faced brickwork and Cedral panels to blend in with the surrounding area.

We carried out a full turnkey solution to supply seven additional single-storey classrooms, a new staffroom, WC’s and storage areas along with an extension and redesign of the staff car park. We were tasked to connect these buildings to the existing school building.

The next phase was to build a two-storey building which comprised six classrooms and WC’s, which has been handed over to the school just ahead of the summer holidays.

All of the classrooms and WC’s were manufactured and fitted out offsite in our state-of-the-art factory, and delivered complete to site at the school.

Cheam School, near Newbury, was founded in 1645, which gives it the prestigious status of being the oldest private school in the UK. They are also proud owners of two offsite constructed Rollalong modular buildings.

Royals Prince Philip; Duke of Edinburgh, followed later by Prince Charles; Prince of Wales famously attended Cheam School, in the era when only 50 students were on the register. The number of children now attending Cheam School is in excess of 400 and Rollalong have been able to support this growth with the supply of one offsite building in 2006 and now a second building installed in September of 2017.

The location of the 2017 building required the Rollalong Education team to think outside the box as there were a number of challenges, including three very large trees and a sloping site – Consideration of these obstructions led to the use of a novel screw pile solution which combined to provide both tree root protection and level installation on a site with a cross fall of 1000mm +.

The new offsite building consists of two classrooms, plus office / store areas and a small lobby. External elevations are clad in vertically fixed overlapping redwood planking, which fits with the wooded surroundings. To the rear of the building is a full width decking area, accessed via twin double doors from each classroom, which provides an outside learning space.

Rollalong Ltd specialise in permanent offsite construction, where buildings are manufactured in their Dorset based factory and delivered to their final home with most of the fit out completed; allowing for faster installation on site.

Over the summer of 2017, Rollalong and Hampshire County Council worked collaboratively to provide local schools with new education facilities, including four single classrooms, one double classroom, and one specialist classroom complete to an enhanced specification.

Andy Smith, Head of Sales said; “on behalf of Rollalong, we are pleased to announce that all six projects were installed within 10 weeks of receiving the order, which is on time and on budget. We could only do this by working closely with our client and our supply chain partners. We had several other education buildings being manufactured at the same time so careful planning & coordination was essential.”

Our factory built classrooms were delivered fitted with electric points, plumbing, toilets, and even the finer details including coat hooks.

Within the Southern Modular Build Framework, Rollalong Ltd have a variety of modular classrooms available for hire and for purchase for various industries, including education, defence and residential.
